CABA Cartografía de los barrios de Caracas 1966 - 2014

CABA maps the informal settlements of Caracas, Venezuela in four key years: 1966, 1983, 2000 and 2014. Maps and analytical graphs uncover data historically absent in official city cartography and reveal disparate patterns of urban growth that set the stage for a physically segregated urban fabric. Over the past five decades informal urban growth occurred two and half times faster than development in the planned areas of the city. Today, half the urban population lives on a quarter of the city's urban land in the form of dense informal settlements. The publication purports to make these urban growth patterns visible and encourage a sense of urgency toward mitigating the circumstances that continue to fuel informal settlements growth and the social consequences they engender.
