Mr. Prime Minister is a Hebrew version of the successful The Prime Ministers by former Ambassador Yehuda Avner. Avner served as close personal advisor, author of speeches and diplomatic secretary of four prime ministers: Levi Eshkol, Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin and Menachem Begin. In his wide-ranging autobiographical work, Avner provides a rare glimpse into the inner circle of the Prime Minister's Bureau, in the intimate moments of the nation's leaders.
Avner documents some of the most dramatic events in Israel's history: the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War, the Entebbe Operation, the peace treaty with Egypt and the bombing of the Iraqi reactor. He describes the ideological dilemmas and political party struggles, the diplomatic embarrassments and the military disasters, the weaknesses and the points of crisis - but also the moments of victory and heroism, brilliant political maneuvers, blazing speeches and historic achievements.
The book, based on Avner's personal diary, contains drafts of speeches, transcripts and official correspondence (some of which are revealed here for the first time in Hebrew), tells the story of the Israeli leadership from the time of the establishment of the state to now, and exposes the prime ministers with their greatness and humanity. The original version of the book became an international masterpiece, and became a successful documentary with Michael Douglas, Sandra Bullock and Christopher Waltz.
