Description

Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam (AKA Bureau Amsterdam) is project space of the world-renowned Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition area, a former clothing workshop, is located in the city center amidst many contemporary art galleries. Since 1993, Bureau Amsterdam has organized exhibitions of Amsterdam-based art in an international context, with an emphasis on new trends and an openness to many forms of media. Exchanges with foreign art organizations, lecture evenings by leading theorists, critics, and artists, and exhibition newsletters round out the program. We Show Art is the Bureau's jubilee edition, published on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. The book surveys exhibitions, projects, and activities from the 90s to the beginning of the 21st century, and includes a complete facsimile of the entire run of the Bureau Amsterdam Newsletter, designed by Mevis & Van Deursen. Snapshots, installation views, and artist portraits provide visual documentation, while a set of essays by various authors give the historical and contextual framework for the Bureau.
