1948-1966 were tragic years for biologists and in particular for geneticists in Russia: after the notorious session of the VASKhNIL in 1948 scientists who did not share the views of the academician Lysenko were removed from their jobs, and some of them persecuted. This is the first publication of work by biologist A.A. Liubishchev (1890-1972) who openly raised his voice against aggressive ignorance and criminal opposition of so called "Michurin biology" to the rest of biology. Liubishchev thought that after the death of Stalin overcoming Lysenko and "Lysenkovshchina" would be easy, but it took another long ten years because the top echelon of the party were as ignorant as Lysenko 's followers. The current work was sent to Khrushchev chapter by chapter, but this did not help speed the process.
