Description
This is an abridged reprint of a memoir by Count Aleksei Ignat'ev (1877-1954), soldier and diplomat. He was equally in demand by the Tsarist government, by the Provisional government, and later by the Soviet government. He helped to save the Tsarist 225 million gold rubles in French banks for Soviet Russia. In 1937 he returned to Russia and outlived Stalin by one year. The original version of this memoir is five volumes long. The editor and publisher of this book omitted what he calls technical details of no interest to modern readers.
