Description

The Way Home, the Skin Walker, and The Fear, the Pit, and the Snare are novellas. They are numbers five, six and seven, in the Ty Chase series, Volume Two. Ty Chase is a US Marshal. The year is 1885. Living in and around Taos, New Mexico, his adventures take him far and wide in his quest to bring the bad man to meet the lawman.

In , The Way Home, Ty Chase, bounty hunter takes on the new role of US Marshal. A deadly fight between a defiant, Cheyenne Dog Soldier and several drunken cowhands forces Chase to intercede in a decades-old vendetta against the local sheriff, Tom Ward. Ward is accused of taking part in the Sand Creek massacre of 1864.

In, The Skin Walker, Ty Chase investigates a series of murders in Loopeville, California that seem to be related to one family, the owners of the Daisy Mine. Evidence points to the supernatural, but the motive can be nothing other than vengeance and greed. The story begins in the aftermath of the robbery of ore wagons from the Daisy Mine near Switchback Mountain and nearby Monitor Creek, and the mine's owners. There is scant evidence to guide him, but what he does have points to something that until now has been only the stuff of Navaho legend...Yenaldlooshi, a Skin Walker. Not being one to let himself be misguided by things that are beyond imagination, Chase does his best to keep his feet planted in reality, even though the facts continue to point elsewhere.

In, The Fear, the Pit, and the Snare, Ty Chase, heads for home after the investigation in Loopeville, Nevada. Randy Beale, the former sheriff, and Pell Ricks, his deputy whom Chase had thought to have been mere dupes in the conspiracy, hold a grudge against him. They divert from their run to the gold fields of the north to lie in wait in the shadows of Hangtown for vengeance. Their attempt to kill Chase fails. But, the confrontation escalates into an unexpected battle against the Yenaldlooshi, and pits Chase and Ricks in a cat-and-mouse duel for justice that spans the Arizona Territory.
