Summary
Description
Ask any educator and you will be told: Learning occurs in many different ways. This is a universal truth. Scholarship comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and occurs in many different ways and places. Each and every one of us uniquely translates our life experiences into the lessons we learn and retain throughout our lives. The anthology, Wisdom and Intellect for the 21st Century, reflects the innumerable facets of our ideal, scholarship. It is through scholarship that we establish the foundation of all that we, as Zetas, have done or will do. Scholarship was and, to this day, remains the preeminent criteria for membership in the Sorority. With it, many doors can open; without it, much opportunity can be lost. Many authors in this anthology described their quest for knowledge or education as a “journey.” And, indeed it is, not a straight forward one, but a journey fraught with twists and turns and mountains and valleys. In this anthology, the second in a series published for the Sorority’s Centennial, we hear from and about our Sorors and Amicae. We gain insight about scholarship from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, with whom we share the ideal. The essays, letters, quotes and zingers contained on these pages will assure readers that scholarship is alive and well in the members, chapters and auxiliaries of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. There are compelling, insightful, thoughtful, gratifying, and amusing stories that reflect our first, and perhaps most important founding ideal. Our Founders would be pleased with how we have upheld, developed and established this ideal since our founding nearly 100 years ago!
