Jamback Road

Summary
Description
This Crossover book (adults like it too) is a coming-of-age mystery, a sequel to Ron Miller's Award-winning novel A Broken Reed. Both are set in the backroads of Alabama during the 1950's, and both are inspired by actual events, and boys who liked fast cars, drive-ins, and were just beginning to notice the local girls. This excerpt will give you just a little taste of what this book offers: God made Jamback Road. The Indians used it first, I guess, wandering down from the hunting trails to find the creek coming off Greenhazel Mountain. I often wondered if the trees were that deep back then, trees so full of themselves their branches nearly touched the ground. The heavy spring rains must've dug the road out of a clearing, flooding off a rise and heaving the bare earth in its wake. That's how we found it that autumn as we moved onto rented property again, filling one of the two houses that fronted Jamback. The other house was even further off the nefarious Highway 9, giving shelter to my irreducible uncle and his sweet Miss Jewel. They didn't know, then, about the young woman, grown cold, beneath the unexpected snowfall. Look carefully and Dee Siegmund's cover art. It foreshadows unforgettable events.
