Having read the first few chapters I can see why he made an impression on some of his contemporaries. A lower middle class Irish American living in Chicago in the early twentieth century who could write vividly and critically and without sentimentality but above all honestly of where he comes from. I am very grateful to you as booksellers who can make available a Library of America edition that is not currently in print from the publisher (but is promised to return).
Scenes of growing up. Early chapter has excruciating account of graduation ceremony from Catholic school.
It is so true to some of my experience that I want to take it at a slow pace.
