Summary
Description
The story of my life in radio, starting in 1970 at CKNL in Ft. St. John, B.C. and the weird story of how I got there. The mistakes I made, the things I learned, and my first encounter with a heartbreaking Indigenous death. We served the area with daily airings of "Message Time" for those homesteading who had no telephones. On the lighter side, wait until you read the explanation of the Little Tiny Ugly.
From there, I would go on to be hired at 630 CHED in Edmonton, Alberta, and find myself in a totally different broadcast atmosphere. The highly creative people I was surrounded by, including Bob McCord, Wes Montgomery, Chuck Chandler, Eddie Keen, Jerry Forbes, Keith James Sr. and others were so impressive - how could I fit in?
Imagine a boss coming to work one day and discovering his office had disappeared. How about a car filled to the top with loose puffed wheat, just because they could. Then there was the day a police officer entered the building, gun drawn, because of a creative April Fools Day prank by Rob Christie. I was banned in Barrhead, Alberta, for something creative I said on the air.
There was a news announcer who sounded like she was having a passionate personal experience on-air. What was that all about?
Would you like to know what it was truly like, covering the Mayerthorpe RCMP tragedy? A reporter on the scene will share some background information.
How did Crystal Glass inspire us to raise the money to buy and equip a police helicopter?
If you can handle stories about people on the air that will make you laugh, shake your head, or even cry, then this book is for you.
If you are a beginning broadcaster, there is advice from sports legend, Bryan Hall, that you should take advantage of.
We would LOVE it if you could help us and other readers by reviewing the book
