Description

On the 13th December 1918, one month after the Great War had ended, a crew of six and a dog called Tiny set off on a pioneering mission to fly from Britain to India. They would achieve their goal, but it was not without its challenges. Follow the crew aboard the Old Carthusian on this frightening and sometimes amusing operation from England through the Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Middle East as they battle extreme weather, engine failure, ill-health, and forced landings in deserts, marshes, and beaches. Track their journey meeting rogue reporters, gold-hungry Arabs in the desert, and generous French vineyard owners. And finally see them land in one piece nearly a month later in Karachi, exhausted and with a plane that needs rebuilding. However, the rest doesn’t last long as the crew and the rebuilt Old Carthusian are called on again and this time it’s a mission through the Khyber Pass to drop a bomb on the royal palace of Amanullah Khan, the King of Afghanistan, in Kabul. This final mission landed the crew and the plane into the history books as their efforts were seen as pivotal in ending the Third Afghan War.
