Stemlab: An Environment for Learning

StemLab "RM" presents interactive goal-based scenarios in which students "become" scientists who work on developing therapies for three major medical conditions -- heart attack, leukemia, and testicular cancer. As they apply stem-cell research to cure and rebuild the body, they can fill in the blanks in their knowledge by looking up background information on cell biology. Eukaryotic cell structure, mitosis, meiosis, and the cell cycle are reviewed in detail. The CD-ROM provides hypertext links to more than 90 animations and movies, more than 300 still images, and a helpful pronunciation guide.
