Description

The Honeyman Collection, housed in the Bancroft Library of the U. of California, Berkeley, contains some oil paintings, various drawings and watercolors, and many popular prints. All date to the early years of California settlement, with depictions of landscape, Indian attacks, mines, hunters, prospectors, sailing ships, steamships, stage coaches, trains, floods, and fires. All are reproduced in this handsome, oversized (11.25x11.25") volume in the best quality color plates. Von Euw (curator of the pictorial collections of the Bancroft) has written a full introduction on the collection. He and Shepley (a freelance writer) provide text on the images by genre.
