Biodiversity, Status, and Conservation of the World's Shads

Thirty-one contributions written by marine biologists, marine researchers, and other scientists are organized into five sections. An introductory section introduces shads and their place in the broader understanding of diadromy, followed by discussion of the status of the shad of Africa, tropical shads of the genus Tenualosa , shads of the Middle East, Eastern Europe, China, Western Europe, and a variety of North American shads. Succeeding sections focus on newly discovered aspects of alosine biology and ecology; four North American river-based case studies; and a summary of the status, conservation, and research needs of the world's shads.
