Description
The aim of this book is to bring together a wide range of experiences from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds to issues concerned with sustainable development in diverse settings throughout the North Atlantic margin regions. Sustainability is about managing development on a global scale. Its fundamental precept is that providing for the needs of the present generation should not impoverish future generations. The book aims to look at the moral and political questions: should we ensure that future generations are no worse off than we are, and how can this be done? To answer these questions the book covers such topics as, concepts, processes, and strategies in sustainable development, area-based strategies for sustainable development - looking at Ireland, Norway, and Wales - sustainable approaches to tourism development, and sustainable development of argicultural communities.
