Description

Principles of Environmental Law comprehensively details the current state of environmental law in the UK and the European Community, focusing on those areas typically covered in most environmental law courses. In so doing, this book adopts a user friendly style which provides readers with an up to date and comprehensive description of the law that is both interesting and understandable. As always, Environmental Law had continued to develop at a considerable pace, both in terms of EC and domestic legislation as well as case law. This third edition has been updated so as to include a discussion of the impact of the Treaty of Amsterdam on the development of EC law and a more thorough analysis of recent trends in EC environmental law. At the domestic level the book has been revised to consider the broader implications of important judicial decisions such as the Empress Car Company case and Hunter v Canary Wharf. In particular the subjects of criminal liability and water pollution have been revisited in the light of the Empress case. The chapter on contaminated land has been rewritten to take account of the detailed statutory guidance, which is now in force. Other legislative changes that have been introduced are also considered in particular the Pollution Prevention Act 1999 which will result in the replacement of the system of Integrated pollution Control with I! ntegrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC). The book also provides commentary on the practical application and enforcement of environmental law and has been updated to provide the reader with a list of useful web sites containing invaluable further information.
