From a Different Viewpoint: The Lives and Experiences of Visually Impaired People
Book details
Summary
Description
The aim of this workbook is to help young people explore the lives and experiences of visually impaired people and to gain an insight into the discrimination they face. The workbook draws heavily on interviews and case studies of visually impaired young people and adults with different lifestyles and experiences. Much of the discussions is underpinned by the social model of disability where disability is viewed as stemming from social and physical barriers within society rather than from the individual's impairment. The workbook contains activities to help young people explore these issues in greater depth.
Practical advice is also given on how to assist visually impaired people and communicate effectively with them.
