“The reason I think this book is great is that I would have valued it when I graduated; there were very few resources out there. If I had known then what I know now, it would have made my life a whole lot easier.” — Peter O’Sullivan, Internationally recognized clinician, researcher and educator, BodyLogic Physiotherapy
“This is something that is going to make a really big difference. You're giving people a huge gift with this.” — Shanté Cofield, Creator of The Movement Maestro, LLC
“This could be a game changer. This will be the kind of thing that will be standard reading at every PT school. Such a good idea. I can’t wait to read this book myself.” — Kelly Starrett, Co-Founder of The Ready State, Author of Becoming A Supple Leopard
“I love this project.” — Beth Darnall, Stanford pain scientist, Internationally recognized speaker and author.
From the Authors:
Dear Reader,
If you’ve opened this book we suspect that you, like us, are likely connected to the movement science profession in some way. Through the eyes of the public, and the American Physical Therapy Association for that matter, physical therapists are seen as “movement experts” within the medical community. But, what is movement really?
In this book we explore the concept of “movement” beyond just the physical sense to include movement of the mind and, most importantly, of our profession. We believe that movement in each of these areas can be enhanced by learning from those who have pushed, and continue to push, our profession forward.
The mission of Movers & Mentors is simple: disseminate personal and professional advice from thought-leaders, researchers, educators, and influencers within the field of physical therapy to young professionals and students.
Though far from an exhaustive list of leaders in our profession, the movers and mentors we have included in these pages are ones who have impacted us in some way. We hope their triumphs, failures, and stories will inspire you, as well. We sincerely thank each of them for their time, wisdom, and thoughtful words — this project would not have come to life without their willingness to share their insights.
We encourage each of you to create your own list of movers and mentors and ask the questions for which you crave answers. We hope you enjoy reading this book as much as we enjoyed making it.
Bryan and Tim
