Diagnostic Imaging for Veterinary Technicians

Diagnostic imaging procedures are an integral part of most veterinary practices, providing both financial and diagnostic benefits. Imaging procedures are a major responsibility of the veterinary technician, assisted by the educated veterinary assistant. A wide variety of imaging techniques are now possible, even in small companion animal practices. Methods that were once used almost exclusively in referral practices and veterinary teaching hospitals have become more widespread in private practices.The goal of this textbook is to provide sufficient detail on imaging procedures for veterinary technicians to gain an understanding of both the basic principles and the procedures used. Practicing veterinary technicians will also find this a valuable reference. Principles and procedures for film-based and digital X-ray techniques, including contrast studies, are presented. Additional topics include endoscopy, MRI, CT imaging, and other less-common methods. Information on procedures used in canine and feline imaging is included, as well as exotic companion animals and equine.It is important to note that many of the images in this text were cropped to remove client and patient information. In some cases, this resulted in removal of directional markers and evidence of collimation. All digital and film-based X-ray images must be properly marked and collimated imaging.
