Thomas Lee Davies is on the run from a past that torments him not only in his days but also in his dreams. How could he fail those hopeless children screaming for his rescue from the living dead that occupies their city and the world? How could he just stand there and watch the love of his life being sideswiped by a running truck that sent her flying to a parked car? They are supposed to run away from the zombies that infiltrated Lawrence Park, Pennsylvania. Now she is gone, as well as the children. Trying to find some solace, Thomas, who happens to be immune from the living dead, finds himself in Alliance, Ohio. But peace seems to evade him. The army finds Thomas and urges him to form a militia that will keep the people of Alliance safe from the z's that is fast approaching their border. Then he meets Captain Trina Martinez. Can he trust Trina with his life? Will Trina help him drive away the zombies from Alliance? Will Thomas and his group be able to rebuild the world that the living dead has destroyed?
