Cantankerous Titles and Obscure Ephemera

Consisting of five films, ranging from 11 to 40 minutes, Joe Biel's collection of talkies perfectly embodies the DIY-doc mantra of “just get out there and shoot it.” Each film is injected with a political and socially conscious agenda that reveal Biel’s signature style and DIY aesthetic. Martinis in the Bike Lane and Last Train out of North America explore alternative forms of transport, while Central Kansas – Canvas Central and Of Dice and Men investigate the obsessive nature of two distinct subcultures: punks and Risk board game players. Finally, Cowboy Hat & a Cane is a documentary short about a dumpster-diving dog that grew up on the mean streets of Portland.
