Description

As populations grow exponentially, good reproductive health is among the highest priorities of international agencies and policy-makers. Advances in medical science have made both the treatment of infertility and the reduction of unwanted pregnancies widely available, yet the long-term effects of these practices has yet to be determined. Widely differing cultural conditions have yet to be taken fully into account, especially in relation to the proliferation of sexually transmitted diseases. This edited volume explores recent advances in basic research on the gynecology of young women, and concomitant clinical applications. Topics include: neuroendocrinology of the menstrual cycle; the endocrinology of implantation; endocrinology of gestation and parturition; molecular biology and genetics relative to the estrogen receptor; ovarian dysfunction and gynecologic cancer; obesity and polycystic ovarian syndrome; anemia and pregnancy; oral contraceptives and their effects on areteries and veins; the estrogen-deficiency syndrome; osteoporosis; the endoscopic surgery; and sexually transmitted diseases.
