Writing this book, I wanted to know more about him and the life he lived, and the coal mining community that exited then. This book, while entertaining and educational, it really sheds light community of coal miners and on how a child would enter the industry and move through various jobs until becoming a adult coal miner. The story is written in such a way that one may feel what it was like being in and around a coal mine, experiencing the work, the environment, and the dangers. The story shines the light about how important the coal industry was in our area, and now is being forgotten as time passes. This book is a meaningful story and told like it could be made into a movie. Many who have read this book, proclaim, It should be required reading in high school or for college freshmen as it illuminates an important part of our history.
