The ACLU descibed the challenges facing today’s children as “an epidemic plaguing schools across the nation.” If these were but challenges it may be a lot easier to identify, address and begin to remedy. However, as an epidemic entails, this disease within our society is a devastating social illness that is “plaguing schools across the nation.” That means that today’s students beginning as early as Kindergarden on up through high school, are at an ever increasing risk of being “pushed out” of school into absenteeism, routine suspensions, expulsions, dropping out, and juvenile detention leading to later adult incarceration. This is called the the School-to-Prison pipeline. This book is an inside look into the lives of students that are currently on the Pipeline leading to Prison. This book demonstrates that our most vulnerable kids have hopes and dreams that somehow get lost and sidelined during the course of their school lives. They do not want to fail. They do not want to go to prison. They want to succeed. This book is their first attempt to find an outlet of escaping this Pipeline.
