Description

Isaiah is well known for his dramatic and beautiful prophecies, especially those concerning the coming of Jesus Christ into mortality, His mortal mission, and His Second Advent. His writings often contain many layers of meaning and interpretation so that even the most erudite student may find trouble in understanding Isaiah's messages and portents. Moreover, while Isaiah's words are often artistically beautiful and set to semantic parallelism (i.e. repetition or balance of concepts), they do not usually resound with or catch the attention of English readers who are more familiar with grammatical parallelism (i.e. rhyming and structure). Thus, this project seeks to bring Isaiah's Hebraic semantic parallelism into conformity with English grammatical parallelism in a nearly verse-by-verse rendering. Some creative liberties may have been taken either to fill the poetry's meter or to fit within it. However, for the most part, the meaning of the text has been well-preserved. Any student of Isaiah, especially the latter-day saint, may find this work both enjoyable and instructive.
