Rehearsing in the Zone: A Practical Guide to Rehearsing without a Director

Rehearsals can often be grueling without a director...Skill level can vary greatly from actor to actor, which makes working with peers challenging. Without a leader, actors often don't know what to accomplish in rehearsal and end up either telling each other what to do or at best, accomplishing nothing. Designed for undergraduate beginning scene study courses, Rehearsing In The Zone is the actor's road map to independent rehearsal on the journey to characterization. While Rehearsing In The Zone, partners respectfully allow each other to explore the play and their character without judgment or contradiction. Similar to the musician, who works on a particular musical passage until it is effortless, the actor learns how to work collaboratively through specificity and concentration.
