Counseling Families: Play-Based Treatment

When working with families with young children, mental health clinicians may use play psychotherapy with an individual child that may not necessarily be integrated within the familial context. Filial therapy, family play therapy, and family counseling in play-based treatment is used to meet children's, along with their family's, unmet mental health needs. 'Counseling Families' presents an integrative model of family play-based treatment that incorporates tenets of filial therapy, family play therapy, expressive arts, and play interventions when working with families and young children. This volume also includes chapters on supervision of therapists providing family play counseling, as well as critical steps toward self-care to prevent burn out.
