Anger at Work: Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment in High-Risk Occupations
Book details
Summary
Description
Like a flare, anger at work can focus attention and motivate a response to a wrong that needs addressing. Anger at work can also be problematic, and have negative consequences for individuals, teams, and organizations. Problematic anger can cause major disruptions in the workplace, impeding performance as well as employee health and well-being. In high-risk occupations, the consequences of prolonged, unhealthy anger can be devastating. This book reveals the impact of anger in these high-risk occupational contexts, highlighting the role of anger in occupations such as policing, firefighting, and the military. This book also aims to help researchers and practitioners understand the role of anger from both clinical and organizational perspectives-investigating the link between anger and mental health problems such as depression, alcohol abuse, and posttraumatic stress disorder, and identifying the influence of teams and leadership. Contributors examine valuable conceptual frameworks, such as moral injury and team culture, and characterize underlying drivers of risk. Treatments and interventions, including cognitive bias modification, are presented to help clinicians and practitioners put these insights to use. Book jacket.
