Two squirrels, Newton and his sister Curie, live near a school. From the branch of a tree next to the school, they listen to a science class for young children. They watch kids enjoy the playground at recess. E.g., they try to play on the seesaw but find it doesn't work for them because they're much smaller than the kids. So they make their own squirrel-sized seesaw after seeing a class on simple machines, specifically a lever and fulcrum. You can follow what they do for your own activities. A delight!
Begins with observations and questions Newton wants to answer. He learns about gravity, mass and force at the classroom window. He gets an idea and wants to test it with an experiment. He notices what goes wrong and thinks of a way to improve the procedure, then gets better results. When he has a real-life problem to solve for his friends the robins, he applies what he learned about levers to get some supplies he needs to make a rope and pulley. Clear, fun way to learn about the scientific method!
