Description

LTE – The UMTS Long Term Evolution, Third Edition builds on the success of the previous editions, explaining the specification and the rationale behind the choices which have been made in 3GPP, to give the reader a detailed insight into the evaluations and trade-offs which lie behind the technology choices in LTE. As the specifications continue to develop, as new releases are produced, this third edition is fully updated to cover Release 11 and 12, including the following: enhanced control channel, more detailed coverage of cooperative networks, more detailed coverage of inter cell interference coordination and its extension to new releases (ICIC, eICIC, FeICIC), small cells and new channel models, new carrier types, etc. The book is slightly re-organized in order to divide the content per topic rather than per release (in previous edition Rel-8-9 was separated with regards to Rel-10).

The theoretical background is considered a key aspect in this third edition (as for the previous editions); however, some parts of the original theoretical treatment from the previous editions may be a bit shortened to allow for the introduction of new features which have been recently developed.
