Summary
Description
Funeral Service Law in New A Guide for Funeral Service Students, 2nd ed. is a textbook written specifically for funeral service students in college programs of study and registered residents preparing to take the NYS Funeral Director Law Examination. The genesis for this book is firmly grounded in academia. Teaching funeral service students in the classroom and registered residents in the workplace – the author came to realize there was no comprehensive, all-encompassing body of written reference material for the funeral service community specific to New York. There are textbooks and resource materials to support lectures and presentations on a number of national topics, such as the Federal Trade Commission Funeral Rule, but nothing of equal comparison to support state topics. Prior to the publication of this book, the only readily available sources of New York State funeral service law existed in the law books themselves or in the various attempts made to compile the laws in their original text. Those sources, some by design and others by purpose, are steeped in legalese and filled with administrative minutia. While this book has the information and material found in a law book, it does not utilize the typical construction of legal statutes using long threads of consecutive law sections. Specifically written for funeral service students and registered residents, the material is simple in design, easy to read, and comprehensible to the average reader with no legal background. This second edition includes references and information from Laws and Regulations Governing Funeral Directing Practice, as provided on the NYS Department of Health, Bureau of Funeral Directing webpage.
