Description

Come fly with us and we will show you an aerial view of Western North Carolina from the whitewater rapids on the Chattooga River to Mt. Pisgah on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You will see four seasons, including the unprecedented snow in January and February of 2010, of waterfalls, rivers, mountains and villages. Only from the air can you get the perspective of the true shape of the mountains, how they drop off into the valleys or over the escarpment, how the veins of gorges run between them. Their rock faces and outcroppings are a primal reminder of the foundation of the mountains and of our planet. Hovering 300 to 500 feet above the earth, there is a sense of how these rocks were uplifted, baked, squeezed and buckled into the vast blue ranges around us. The Blue Ridge Mountains were created over 450 million years ago by a series of continental collisions and are among the oldest mountains in the world. They once stood as bare rock, 20,000 feet high. Over 200 million years of wind and rain have worn these Appalachian peaks down to 5000 and 6000 feet and left the summits, slopes and valleys green and lush with fertile soil and more varieties of trees than are found in all of Europe. Rivers and streams have etched paths down the slopes over many breathtaking waterfalls, Whitewater Falls, Cullasaja and Dry Falls, Drift, Rainbow, Stairstep, Toxaway, Bridal Veil, Triple and High Falls. They have carried the eroded peaks into the Piedmont and on to the Eastern coast of America and the Gulf of Mexico. Many of those falls are so tall you cannot see all of their length from the ground. Come fly with us and we will show you their beauty from top to bottom. Man has made his impact on the mountains and you will see that from the air as well. We have put in roads including The Blue Ridge Parkway, lakes, a NASA tracking station, villages and developments.
