Syllable Savvy Spelling - Level 5: The Score Soaring Way to Spell

Syllable Savvy Spelling is the score soaring way to spell. The simple three column method focuses attention on individual syllables and common spelling patterns. Students get immediate feedback with this self-editing strategy that has them check each letter in each syllable. Syllable Savvy Spelling uses a simple three column method of spelling. The first column of the lesson lists the words phonetically by syllable. The second column lists the word by its standard spelling. The third column breaks the standard spelling into syllables with the number of letters in each syllable. As students do the homework on their daily work page, they will first find the phonetic spelling. They then write the word on the page syllable by syllable. Finally, they self-check each syllable and write the number of letters they wrote correctly. Syllable Savvy Spelling provides 30 lessons per year. Each lesson consists of the weekly lesson page and three daily homework pages. A test is given the fifth day of each lesson. Syllable Savvy Spelling promotes phonics by emphasizing common spelling patterns. However, students will see multiple phonic families in each lesson to promote on-going review of all spelling patterns. The Instructors Guide is included at the front of each book. In addition, the appendix has The Spelling Rules section which helps students remember the most common spelling patterns. There are fifteen words in each lesson as well as room to include five additional word. Each level of Syllable Savvy Spelling has a theme. Nations and Capitals is the theme for Level 5. Each lesson will begin with four spelling words comprised of two different nations and their respective capital.
