Introduction to Gangs

This is the latest edition of a text that was first published in 1991 and has been growing with each new edition. It is intended for use as a college or university text or as a training text for workers and policy makers in law enforcement, social services, and education. Among the issues discussed are gang history, community, theory, law enforcement, corrections, and prevention. Three new chapters in this edition analyze mass media and gangs, discuss the impact of federal prosecution on gangs, and compare organizational characteristics of cults and gangs.
