Midnight Matters

An adolescent in a blended family, Nate Bouvier feels completely out of place—at school, at home and even in his own body. Socially awkward, he buries himself in all things electronic. While on vacation, oblivious to the world around him, Nate takes a wrong turn that changes his life forever. Stumbling back through time, Nate finds himself living the life of another person. Suddenly, he is face-to-face with the horrors of slavery as he lives side-by-side with Midnight, a 14-year-old slave. In this journey Nate learns what it means to be a friend. Without the distractions of his electronic companions, he finds strength and character in the real world. He discovers adventure on the wild Mississippi and conquers some demons from his past. In an unlikely place Nate learns how to be a son and realizes that he has a father waiting for him back home. Nate risks his life to save his new friends and sets in motion a series of events that could alter the history he is now living. If he can find his way back into the modern age, he will bring with him a legacy from the past that will enable him to open his heart to the new people in his family and the Savior he found in the cotton fields of Louisiana.
