Description

The objective of this Bible reading plan is to read through the entire Bible in one calendar year. This plan differs from other Bible reading plans in two aspects. First, the Bible is read through in roughly chronological order. The advantage in doing this is that the Old Testament prophets are read in context with the historical events of the nation of Israel as recorded in 1st and 2nd Kings and 1st and 2nd Chronicles. This shows us what motivated God to speak to his people and warn/instruct them through His prophets. Also, Paul's letters to churches and individuals are read in the order they were written and in the context of his life's events as recorded by Luke in the book of Acts. The second aspect of the reading plan is that the New Testament is read in parallel with the Old Testament. Some chronological Bible reading plans delay reading any of the New Testament until the Old Testament is finished. This is not as rewarding as reading both testaments together. The advantage to reading the two testaments in parallel is that one can clearly see that the entire New Testament is embedded in the Old Testament.
