Description
Shallow-draughted Thames sailing barges were a common sight on the river throughout the 19th century and well into the 20th, and the agility of the boats and crew were honed by keenly contested races, held from the 1860s. This book offers a first-hand account of the golden age of the barges, in the early 20th century, by a member of a prominent barging and barge-racing family, based at Mistley in Essex.
