The Discipline of Law Schools: The Making of Modern Lawyers

Kissam (constitutional and immigration law, jurisprudence, University of Kansas School of Law) argues that law school disciplinary practices contribute to an excessive focus on basic technical skills over more complex skills of legal argument and to the development of unduly conservative views about the nature of law, legal practices, and legal ethics. He draws on contemporary political theory and philosophy to develop an original ethical basis for more democratic legal education.
