Description

Being able to dress and undress are essential life skills that most of us take for granted, but for many people these processes can be quite difficult. In this revised edition of her Pre-Dressing Skills, author Marsha Dunn Klein, M. Ed., OTR/L, provides practical, task-analyzed teaching techniques for teachers and clinicians to use to help children who are developmentally delayed and adults and youngsters with physical handicaps learn to dress and undress. The purpose of this valuable 150-page professional resource is to provide a background in the normal developmental sequence of dressing and undressing skills to preschool and special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and nurses. It offers suggestions for teaching approaches and techniques that can simplify the teaching process and maximize success. In this book, Ms. Klein provides: teaching strategies; standard and adapted dressing techniques; suggestions for adaptive equipment and devices; and classroom teaching games. Also included are checklists and forms for assessing the person's developmental dressing skills. The book contains forms for task analysis and classroom activity. All forms and checklists may be reproduced for administrative purposes. Throughout the manual, the author provides frequent probes-questions that help teachers, clinicians, and nurses reinforce the information they have just read. Illustrations help the reader visualize the activities being discussed. Information is included about the equipment available for children who are developmentally delayed and adults and youngsters with physical handicaps. This workbook is a self-teaching tool that begins with a list of specific objectives and ends with a test to help teachers, therapists, and nurses assess what they have learned.
