Description

An updated edition of a textbook which is designed to tailor physical education and sport to individuals with unique needs, this book provides sports professionals with information on traumatic brain injury, stroke, autism and dwarfism, and offers new chapters on other adapted physical education. The contributors attempt to provide a broader and more timely coverage of adapted physical education issues and subspecialties, with new "student-friendly" features such as highlighted key terms, appendices, lists of resources, and simple explanations of legal terms. In addition they offer new chapters on non-disabled students and adapted physical education; infant and toddler physical activity; preschool adapted physical education; rhythms and dance; and wheelchair sport performance. They also discuss how new federal legislation, such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, affects current physical education programmes. Eight of the book's 27 chapters are devoted to the modification of activities and sports, ranging from archery to wrestling. The new edition also features software which provides suggestions for an introductory course in adapted physical education and sport, chapter-by-chapter student activities, learning activities to supplement class work, study and test questions, and additional resources. The test bank portion of the software allows users to search for multiple-choice questions, create original questions, and edit and print in test form. The disk also features the TestStats Manager, a module which allows users to record and print a student's test scores in gradebook format. TestStats Manager also computes useful statistics for the test scores entered. System requirements are: IBM compatible computer with Windows 3.1 or higher, or a Macintosh computer with System 6.0.7 or higher.
