It is fitting, then, that we should join with the Art Institute of Chicago to present Art and Appetite: American Painting, Culture, and Cuisine. The exhibition allows us to celebrate the strength and ingenuity of American art and agriculture. Offering a new perspective on American still-life painting since colonial times, the exhibition illuminates the history of our nation's food culture. The works in the exhibition reinforce the idea that food is at the center of our culture: ot just our health, but our families, identifies, aspirations, and even our dreams.
