Government Information Essentials
Book details
Summary
Description
Unlike other government information titles, this book will not be a list of links of government resources, rather it aims to arm all those who work with government information and collections with solutions to real-world issues. It looks at collection development, storage, and preservation; it looks at integrating government information and resources into displays, instruction and professional literature; and it includes a wide variety of other topics, including how to support your patrons after a disaster. The authors note that more and more government forms, publications and reports are becoming available online and more and more librarians of all types need to work with federal, state and international resources. Government information is no longer just the domain of the government document librarian. Examples: • In 213 17, public libraries were involved with helping people sign up for the Affordable Care Act. • Currently the State Department is encouraging public libraries to become Passport Acceptance Facilities. • Many other libraries are involved with voter registration. With more government publications becoming freely available, more librarians are in need of a guide presenting real-world issues and solutions to help them flourish in this specialized yet broad field.
