The films and techniques of Hollywood director George Stevens as presented in a Harvard University Doctoral Thesis May 1974. This work was selected for a series of theses published by Garland Publishing in 1987. An examination of 20 of Stevens' films from Alice Adams (1935) to The Only Game in Town (1969), including the classic Gunga Din, Woman of the Year, Penny Serenade, A Place in the Sun, Shane, Giant and The Diary of Anne Frank. The author was granted a series of interviews by Stevens and was encouraged throughout the project.
