Social Sciences Research

Social Sciences Research, designed by Gail M. Staines, Mark Bonacci and Katherine Johnson, is a comprehensive resource manual for both students and instructors to help students carry out library research in the social sciences, develop writing strategies for formal papers, and orally present and defend their work. Drawing from their backgrounds in teaching library research and scholarly writing methods, these collaborators elaborate on how to recognize a scholarly from a popular source, develop research questions, conduct a computer-assisted literature search, and write papers in an acceptable format, (i.e., the APA format). Included in the manual are four appendices, which provide further practice for students. The first consists of a list of research questions that have been posed by prior students. The second is an example paper. The third is the complete set of worksheets. The fourth contains blank citation forms to be used to record references from books, chapters in books, scholarly articles, and Internet sites. The ideal resource for college students, this manual addresses the finer points of research and writing that are not given enough instruction in the classroom because of time constraints.
