Description

The provocative title of this book is not intended to excite further anger in the black community but to promote self-awareness to trigger positive action. Data is based on 300 interviews and hundreds of focus groups conducted by the author, a psychologist. It reveals why so many black women are furious at black men who must accept responsibility for it. According to Reynolds, a strong relationship existed between black men and women until the 1950's; it was the major factor in preventing racism from destroying the black community. Then came the rupture. Searching for answers, it soon became apparent that too many black women have been hurt, abused and abandoned; teenagers have been left pregnant, helpless and homeless by men who refuse to accept responsibility for their actions. World War II and post-war opportunities allowed black women to get a higher education at better pay; many "feel" they've outgrown the available pool of potential black mates socially, educationally and culturally. The author makes a very strong case on how black men can once again take charge of their lives to reestablish more permanent relationships. A HASTINGS HOUSE CLASSICS BOOK First published in 1994, this timeless classic has been once again made available as an exact reproduction of the original volume, now a collector's treasure.
