Voting: What Is, What Could Be

This research began with a desire to evaluate existing voting technologies to determine whether they meet the country's needs for a secure & reliable system of recording election preferences. The researchers also saw a need to understand how machine performance & reliability fit into the larger picture of election admin. Researchers met with leading election officials, researchers, & industry rep's. from around the country. This report presents the findings of the first 6 months of research. It provides recommendations both for concrete improvements, which could be made before the next election, & for guidance in setting the direction of the technological innovation.
