An Ordinary Man

Hotel manager Paul Rusesabagina confronted killers with a combination of diplomacy, flattery and deception. This allowed him to shelter more than 1200 people in the Hotel Des Milles Collines, while homicidal mobs raged outside during the Rwandan genocide. This autobiography looks at what happened inside the hotel during those 100 days, relating the anguish of those who saw loved ones brutally massacred, and their survival on airline meals and water from the swimming pool. Rusesabagina also explores the racial complexity within his own life (a Hutu married to a Tutsi) and his complete estrangement from the madness that surrounded him during the genocide.
