This volume is arranged in three main sections. The first deals with the institutions of the fifth republic and their effects on the party system. The second section covers debates on ideologies, including definitions of socialism and liberalism in the French context and presenations of their challengers ("ecologisme" and "frontisme". The final section discusses the adequacy of systems of representation in France today. The book is entirely in French, and includes texts drawn both from political scientists and practising politicians with ample use of public opinion surveys. The extracts are supplemented by notes, glossaries and comprehension questions. The book is a companion volume to "Le peuple de France aujourd'hui".
