School Leadership and Administration: Important Concepts, Case Studies, and Simulations
Book details
Summary
Description
The text is designed to help prospective and experienced principals, administrators and supervisors increase their knowledge and skills through concepts, case-studies, and simulations. Two parts makeup this text. Part I presents important theoretical concepts and research findings that if adequately understood and appropriately applied can improve educators' problem solving and leadership effectiveness. Problems and issues illustrated in case studies and simulations are presented in Part II. Nevertheless, it is the problem dimension of human behavior in school administration that should be studies, and it is here that preparation and in-service training programs need to be directed if prospective and experienced administrators and supervisors are to be equipped with the skills needed for the future as well as for the present. The fifth edition has a thoroughly updated research base, incorporates new topics for the ‘90's and beyond, and uses less conservative, traditional language. New current, relevant, diverse, pragmatic cases have been added; previously published cases have been revised. Seven of the 65 cases are new: #16, Crime; #27, Problems with Communication and Media; #30, School Community Relations; #49-50, Race and Drug Issues; and #65, Students with Special Needs. Empowerment theories and approaches have been added to Part I. Women in leadership roles has been added to chapter 2 and in case studies throughout.
