Description
This text aims to provide essential background material for primary practitioners who treat lipid disorders, and to serve as a practical guide for treatment of this condition. For those interested in background material, the first several chapters contain the scientific basis for treatment and more complex concepts are carefully explained with examples. However, the main emphasis of the book is on the clinical concepts in terms of laboratory measurements, classification of lipid disorders, causes and means for detecting secondary dyslipidaemias, and the appropriate clinical evaluation. Three chapters are devoted to guidelines for treatment covering non-drug therapies, and drug therapies. Also included are instructional sheets on using hypolipemic drugs for patients. Case studies covering nine pertinent categories are given with commentary. The final sections of the book provide additional educational resources for the practitioner himself, and for the patient.
